Thousands of cannabis enthusiasts put on their hip boots and slogged through the mountains of governmental excrement to enjoy the High Times Medical Cannabis Cup in San Bernardino on the 16th and 17th of February. The show was originally scheduled for Los Angeles, but pressure from the LAPD caused the permits to be pulled. So the organizers found a new venue in Glendale. Political pressure caused the Glendale City Council to hold an emergency meeting and cancel the event there.
San Bernardino permitted the organizers to hold the event there and, thanks to the internet, those who appreciate the many benefits of marijuana were informed of the change in location and made their way to San Bernardino.
Entering the event, supporters had an opportunity to interact with the many community organizations such as NORML, ASA, The Human Solution, and Patients Med Aid. These groups encouraged visitors to examine the many ways that participants could support cannabis freedom and help fellow cannabis users.
Just before the entrance to the medicating area, the Green Doctors were examining people for doctors recommendations so they could enter the medicating area if they didn’t have a doctor’s recommendation already. Inside the medicating area, many collectives were offering samples of their products for free or for a small donation. One booth was offering medicated snow cones. Several offered smoking devices of every shape and description. Indica and sativa strains and hybrids were too numerous to count. “Dabbing” was being enjoyed by many with some needing help from the emergency medical technicians because they enjoyed the “dabbing” a little too much. Cookies, brownies and candies were available for people who chose to enjoy the cannabis in a smokeless manner.
Panel discussions were well attended and allowed visitors to listen and interact with leaders in the cannabis movement. A legalization panel, a patients’ panel, an edibles panel and a dabbing panel informed the attendees and provided them with a space to sit and relax.
Redman and The Game entertained the visitors at the end of the first day. Tommy Chong received a Lifetime Achievement Award in the awards ceremony at the end of the second day. Tanj by Reserve Privada won the Best Sativa Award. The Best Indica Award was presented to Alpha Medic for their Godfather OG strain. Girl Scout Cookies by Life Is Good won the Best Hybrid Award. Honey B OC Nectar delivered the Best Concentrate Award to Green Coast Deliveries. Buds and Roses won Best Hash Award for their Lemon OG Solvent-less Wax. And Blackberry Dark Chocolate, entered by River City Phoenix, won Best Edible Award.
