So is the College Football Hall of Fame.
Showing that a museum and hall of fame can embrace modern technology while still holding true to the history and traditions of the sport isn't an easy task. but John Stephenson and his team at Atlanta Hall Management have pulled it off with this tech-heavy hall.
It also came at a heavy price tag, but this hall honoring the 5 million people that have laced it up and played college football, should remain relevant, well into the future.
The $68 million museum was mostly paid for with private donations, but some big corporations like Chick-fil-A and Coca Cola did step up to the plate.
The 94,000-square-foot building in a perfect downtown location, right near the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola and had its own parking deck.
It also has an entrance that will put you into a trance. With 745 college football helmets making up a three-story wall.
Now the technology comes into play.
Visitors will be asked for their college or favorite team and various other information. This will be encoded on an RFID chip that will rest in your entrance pass. It will also allow you to see team-specific information throughout your visit. It all starts with your team's helmet lighting up as you pass through the entrance way.
I don't want to spoil all of the surprises, but you will get to experience a ton of interactive exhibits. You can get your face painted virtually with the colors of your favorite team.
Fans can run pass routes and kick field goals to an actual goal post on the 45-yard playing field. There is a radio booth where you can make your on call of famous plays, a theater where you can see a 4K film of college games recorded last season. It almost makes you feel like you are on the field of play. There is a sequence from last year's Army vs. Navy game where you can see the ridges and shapes of the snowflakes that are falling. It's intense.
There is also an ESPN Gameday Studio set with a green screen and you will be superimposed on the set with Chris Fowler and Desmond Howard to make your picks. You will even don the head gear of your pick's mascot to wrap up the segment.
It's fun, it's interactive and it makes you appreciate those that play, coach and in any way were involved with college football.
Fans could roam the halls all day and keep discovering new items and ways to enjoy all it has to offer.
