Saturday, March 29, Thomas Dulorme (20-1) will take on Karim Mayfield (18-0-1) for a vacant NABF light welterweight title. The bout will be held at The Ballroom Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ and televised on HBO.
For Dulorme, the bout is an opportunity for him to show the boxing world that he truly contend with top level opponents. Dulorme, who suffered his only loss to Carlos Luis Abregu (35-1), is coming off four consecutive victories and a lot of hope to become one of Puerto Rico's premier fighters.
Promotionally, Dulorme is signed with Gary Shaw Productions and DiBella Entertainment, who have plans of putting Dulorme in a position to contend for a world title. However, it is uncertain as to whether Dulorme possesses the skills to contend with some of the world's pound for pound best fighters.
On the other hand, Mayfield is coming into the match up with alot of momentum. With victories over former world champion Steve Forbes, two-time Olympian Patrick Lopez, Mauricio Herrera, and highly touted prospect Raymond Serrano, it is evident that Mayfield is has the skills to go far within the sport of boxing.
Consequently, credit must be given to Gary Shaw, Dulorme's promoter, and Bob Arum of Top Rank, Mayfield's promoter, as they have put together a quality match up with much at stake. The victor will certainly be in line for a title opportunity, if not, a title elimination bout.
Even more, with Ruslan Provodnikov holding a WBO light welterweight title, it is foreseeable that the winner could be considered to be one of his next foes. Hence, the possibilities of a future world title opportunity insight make the battle between Dulorme and Mayfield that much more intriguing.
