While Governor Scott of Florida has turned down 3billion$ for high speed rail in Floida, which has limited public transport, Japan, France and now China are racing to the futureby building high speed links. Jobs, technology transfer, and ease of travel for commuters are advantages of high speed rails and other high tech programs.
NASA, DARPA and many other US government programs and reserach is what launched the USA as a superpower. The ascent of the USA as the dominant world power began in the 1940's under President Franklin Roosevelt, who created the Tenessee Valley Authority bring electricity to rural areas, workers' programs, social security, and laid the groundwork for the world's dominant economy. The USA still has the highest regarded Universities in the world, but the competition is on.
Recently, China has built the world's fastest supercomputer, that is more than two times as fast as the former number one supercomputer, built in the USA. It can perform over a trillion operations per second.
They also have created with their own technology the fastest train with speeds over 300 miles per hour ( approx 450 km/hr). Other competitors in high speed trains are France and Japan.In addition China is leading the way in renewable energy.
In China, Green energy investments are in the hundreds of billions, while US politicians argue about the Science of global warming. Contracts to build wind turbines in the USA have been won by the Chinese.
UK born Chinese students have the best school results in the UK compared to the rest of the population. There is almost nothing the UK, USA, and the West can do that China does not do cheaper and faster. With advanced education in science and engineering, new products and innovation will originate from China.
