According to Natalie Filmer of the Heidelberg Leader, March 19 2014, Tristan Carter, 16-year-old high school student at the Ivanhoe Grammar School in Rosanna qualified for Australia’s 2014 junior canoe slalom team.

This makes him eligible to compete against students several years older in this year’s championships held in Australia in April 2014.

“Tristan is viewing the challenge as valuable experience in his quest to really make his mark in Rio the following year,” according to Filmer

“The Ivanhoe Grammar School Year 10 student, according to Filmer, “has a long list of competitions that he will compete in during the next 12 months, which he hopes will gain him enough percentage points to, again, qualify in the C1 division for the Junior World Championships being held in Rio in 2015.”

Tristan told Filmer “I like the opportunity to travel to different places and the amount of fun that you have as well.”

Rosanna, the suburb where Tristan Carter lives is located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Ivanhoe Grammar School is an independent, co-educational, day school, located in Ivanhoe (Buckley House and The Ridgeway Campus) and Mernda (Plenty Campus), both located in the north-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

So far this year, according to News & Events, Tristan and his teammates have had a challenge season.

“Once again a large contingent of paddlers competed at the National Schools’ Kayaking Championships. The team was able to retain the Overall Championship Trophies as well as the Boys Team Trophy and Tristan Carter won the Junior Boys Overall Championships Trophy.”
