A Cypress Bay (FL) High School football coach was suspended for striking his QB in the helmet for overthrowing his receiver. The incident happened on 8/25 and can be seen below. I'm on the fence on whether or not he should have been suspended for these actions but in the wake of all that has gone on lately you knew a suspension would be handed down.
Because of what happened at Rutgers with Mike Rice, coaches are even more under the microscope and touching athletes won't be tolerated anymore. This happened to be on ESPN as well so there was no avoiding it reaching the masses on the web.
Another thing to consider here is that fact that he hit him in the head. Football is really cracking down on any blows to the head on the field and has made concussions and head safety a huge point of emphasis recently. Now, they aren't expecting coaches to be the culprits here, I'm just saying it is something else to consider. A strike or shove on the shoulder pads is a lot different than a strike to the head.
Is this part of the pussification of our youth? Probably. You decide whether it was a suspend-able offense or not:
