Yesterday, we looked at the boys state basketball tournament for the boys. Today, its the girls turn for the state of Ohio. The latest AP state rankings are listed below:
1, Cin. Princeton (7) 21-2 203
2, Mason (5) 21-1 184
3, Kettering Fairmont (4) 19-2 178
4, Wadsworth (5) 20-1 171
5, N. Can Hoover (1) 18-2 145
6, Perrysburg 18-2 100
7, Tol. Notre Dame 15-3 69
8, Berea-Midpark 19-2 66
9, Centerville 19-3 47
10, Reynoldsburg 18-4 41
Notice anything suspicious? Only one Cleveland area team in Berea-Midpark. That doesn't mean that there aren't Cleveland area teams that could make a deep run in the tournament.
The girls tournament runs the same way that the boys does, with four different regions, broken down into four different districts. The "combined districts" are then seeded with 24 teams, with a couple of Cleveland area teams traveling for their regional assignments.
Elyria District (click here for bracket)
The top seed in the Elyria district is North Royalton. The Bears are the #3 seed in the combined Elyria/Northwest district. At 18-2, the Bears have had their best season in years, and have been playing very well of late. They will have their hands full in the district final against Magnificat, who has been tested against better competition. Projected District Winner... Magnificat
Magnificat would advance to the Norwalk regional where they would play the winner of the Northwest District where Toledo Notre Dame Academy and Lima Senior are the top two seeds.
Parma District (click here for bracket)
The top team in the Parma district is Berea-Midpark. The Titans are the #2 seed in the combined Parma/Medina combined district. They take a #8 state ranking into the tournament. They should cruise into the district final with a match up with either fifth seeded Westlake or seventh seeded Wooster. Projected District Winner... Berea-Midpark
Medina District (click here for bracket)
The Medina district is led by Wadsworth. The Grizzlies are the #1 seed in the combined Parma/Medina district, and take a #4 state ranking into the game. They shouldn't have any problems getting through the district, with their toughest challenges being either eighth seed Brecksville, or sixth seeded Lakewood. Projected District Winner... Wadsworth
Berea-Midpark and Wadsworth would then meet in a regional semi-final at North Royalton High School. The winner of that game would take on the winner of Norwalk regional with Magnificat, North Royalton, Toledo Notre Dame Academy and Lima Senior are the top seeds.
Chagrin Falls District (click here for bracket)
The top team in the Chagrin Falls district, and the top seed in the combined Chagrin Falls/ Alliance district is Solon. The Comets, despite not being ranked in the latest AP Poll, have defeated state #4 Wadsworth on the road, #6 Perrysburg, and took #3 Kettering Fairmount to overtime on a neutral court before falling in overtime. They shouldn't be tested until the district final against fourth seeded Eastlake North. Projected District Winner... Solon
Solon would then advance to the Canton regional at the Canton Civic Center. They will take on the winner of the Alliance District where the top two seeds are #2 Uniontown Lake and #3 Canton McKinley.
