High Rise do's and don'ts: A design seminar at Millennium Tower San Francisco

Millennium Tower, the 60-story, luxury residential tower in San Francisco has introduced ” La Vie”.  It is a monthly events program designed to enhance the Millennium Tower lifestyle and showcase the amenities available to its residents. La Vie represents community living at its best.

The calendar of events is simply amazing and includes a variety of things to ensure each resident will find something of interest.
The exciting events have included a wine school seminar with renowned wine educator Karen MacNeil, an outing to watch a San Francisco Giants game from a private luxury box to name a few. The program of events ranges from film screenings, wine tastings, chocolate making, to Interior Design seminars.

Just recently, 2 vacant units were the back drop for a “ High Rise design seminar with an eco-friendly touch” we  were privileged to lead.
Residents and VIP guests enjoyed themselves while sipping  award winning wines and savoring exquisite hors d’oeuvres provided by Millennium Tower  and delicious organic treats courtesy of Vital Choice Seafood.

Vivian Panou, Green expert and Director of Special Events for Earth Friendly Products  who especially flew in from LA, gave her tips on “ how to detoxify your home” via the use of green home cleaning products.

Residents were also shown green and eco-friendly design ideas  by key note speaker and High Rise design expert, your very own  Sophie Azouaou, who shared some important steps towards leading a  more eco-conscientous life.

These are the essential do’s at a glance:

  • Selecting natural fibers for rugs such as  Abaca or 100% new Zealand wool rugs to reduce risk of allergies, asthma and chemical exposure via toxic dyes.
  • Painting with Low VOC Paint (Volatile Organic Compounds), to reduce toxic fume exposure.
  • Opting  for sustainable and natural wood furniture such Alder, Rattan, Bamboo, Wicker and switching to  Bio Foam cushion and seat fillers instead of regular foam. Ochi and Company and Palecek are 2 leading  sources in San Francisco.
  • Getting 100% wool filled mattress or soy bean base mattresses.
  • Favoring  lead free glass top end and coffee tables, and lead free table and floor lamp.
  • Switching to bamboo, organic maple, reclaimed floors or wool carpet.
  • Last but not least, bringing the outdoors in, with plants and trees to not only complement the décor, but to purify the air.

The evening ended with a drawing of amazing raffle prizes provided by generous sponsors: DJ Mehler, Duchess Marden, Earth Friendly Products, Ensoma SPA, Living Tree Community Foods, MC Gary and CompanyMelvita, Ochi and Company, Pomega5, Shear Miracles By Robyn, Secret Agent Salon, SophiSticate InteriorsSuki Skincare, Vital Choice Seafood and Vaska.

All guests were treated to a full size Parsley Plus, Pear Dishmate, Hand Soap, or UniFresh courtesy of our sponsor Earth Friendly Products.
The seminar was well received. Attendees learned that they did not need to sacrifice comfort or design to lead a greener life. They left motivated by the new ideas unveiled to them.
