In a recent interview with Jon Stewart over the Obamacare rollout, US Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelious stunningly told Stewart what the GOP has been warning Americans about all along.
In the interview, Sebelius actually declared:
"As you know, we're facing the end of the Western Civilization by having a market-based strategy.
We are bringing Western Civilization to its knees by selling private insurance plans on a website where people can pick and choose."
The question now being asked is whether or not Sebelious is mixing Obama Administration talking points with a stealthily contrived Progressive impetus to eventually "transform" America away from a free market economy. Some seem to believe it was an effort at snarky sarcasm, but was it, really?
The fact that both Health Insurance Agents and companies have been routinely selling private health insurance plans on websites where people can pick and choose is nothing new, to be sure. Private health insurance agencies and brokerages have been doing business in much this way for over 30 years, and even immediately at the time the internet came into being.
Before the internet, insurance agents still utilized an exchange approach which offered numerous private alternatives via brochures and glossy sales presentations.
So, has the Obama regime reinvented the preexisting wheel via offering numerous insurance plans on a website?
Not at all, say insurance companies.
But, many individuals are still asking how is this now somehow different with the US government offering the choices, as Sebelious has indicated? The answer, say Conservatives, points to a government that has taken over private markets while regulatorily rigging the game in its favor at forcibly acquiring a single-payer monopoly--which will then eventually control the entire marketplace.
Economists indicate that the hallmark of Western Civilization has always been rooted within free market principles; however, Obamacare, which puts the US government in charge of fully 1/6th of America's economy, seeks to force Americans to buy a service, often against their will, while placing each individual's health at the eventual mercy of government bureaucracy.
Those who do not go along will be forced into dealing with the government's ever relentless and often feared Internal Revenue Service.
Sebelious' point in all of this, stated more succinctly, appears obvious. While Obama and his administration have been forced to work loosely within the strictures laid out by the US Constitution, Obamacare finally creates a free market bypass around the safety net of limiting centralized government authoritarianism, under the auspices of a tax, at least according the US Supreme Court.
However, since even the beginning of the roll out of Obamacare, US companies have been shedding workers, while moving others into part-time status, in an effort to keep the doors open against the newly mandated health coverage costs--which are now spiraling out of control across the board.
Individuals and families in the private market have seen costs zoom up by as much as 300% in some cases, and are even now venting on the official Obamacare Facebook page.
Private healthcare is rapidly becoming largely unaffordable for many, as a result except for the wealthy, which makes the reality of Obamacare ironically opposed to the President's stated reasons for setting the mandate into effect in the first place. The Affordable healthcare Act was originally packaged and sold legislatively as a means for American families to save at least $ 2,500 per year while keeping both their doctors and their original health plan,as repeatedly alluded to by Barack Obama and the Democrats.
Predictably, neither of these imperatives are proving to be true, as indicated by news account, after news account..
Indeed, Obamacare could be seen as nothing if not a severe birthing pain in America's demise and as the heart of Western Civilization, as directly indicated by Secretary Sebelious. Many within the Conservative media, along with GOP elected officials, believe that the President has never approved of-- nor does he understand what America is truly about, as the leader of the free world. This is quite possibly what Sebelious means when she states, " We are bringing Western Civilization to its knees."
Ideological confirmation of these facts can easily be found from one very specific Barack Obama quote that is both little known and largely telling, and has never been repeated by the President since:
"Belief in Capitalism is Blind Faith. This philosophy of letting people fend for themselves has failed." ~President Barack Obama, October 2010.
