If dads can have their “man caves,” then mothers should have a place in the house where they can be left alone or chill with her girlfriends as well, right?
That’s the hope of HGTV host and decorator Matt Muenster (“Bath Crashers”), who teams with Howard Stern’s wife, Beth Ostrosky Stern to co-host a one-off show that offers women decorating ideas for such a space in the home.
Airing Saturday (Sept. 3) at 9 p.m., “Mom Caves,” Muenster writes on his website, “is a tricky thing to define – as the term doesn’t exactly carry the immediate imagery that comes to mind when one hears ‘Man Cave,’ but it is an exciting chance to develop something new.”
Stern was brought in for her expertise in all things mom cave. She owns two: one in New York and a two-story escape in her new home in the Hamptons. Both, according to HGTV, “are dressing rooms where she chills out with friends and gets ready for big nights out, and they're off-limits to her shock jock husband, Howard.”
HGTV has only committed to a pilot episode, but if Saturday's ratings are on point, a full series pickup is sure to come.
“I really have no idea what the future holds for a potential series. It’s kind of being ‘focus grouped’ to everyone watching HGTV Saturday and we’ll see where it goes from there” writes Muenster. “Regardless of what happens, it was a great opportunity to try something new, to meet some new and wonderful producers/crew, and to get pushed outside my comfort zone a little bit.”
