HGTV Dream Home Giveaway 2014: Contest loophole a new way to cheat and win?

The HGTV Dream Home Giveaway has fans around the country entering their names in the contest to win the HGTV Dream Home 2104 and there’s good reason. With a two million dollar prize that includes a beautiful home in Lake Tahoe, a Yukon Denali and cash there is incentive to win. On Thursday the Inquisitor reported there was a contest loophole that gives some people an extra advantage for winning. Typically people are only allowed to enter the contest twice per day, but some people have found a way to enter 10 times a day or more.

How are people using this contest loophole? According to the rules if using USPS mail, you can enter as many times as you want. That’s right, people are whipping out the 3x5 cards and writing their name and address on a card and mailing it in bulk. Upping their odds for winning and taking time to really try to make it their dream home.

Is the contest loophole cheating? According to Sandra Grauschopf who is a guru on sweepstakes and contests, the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway contest loophole is all about reading the rules. Apparently this idea of mailing in entries isn’t anything new and has been done in previous contests. Yet the idea of being able to submit more entries does offer an advantage to anyone who wants to win. It’s just a question of how ambitious the viewers are to make it happen.

Technically it’s not possible to suggest the extra entries is cheating as it’s clearly part of the rules. In 2013, the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway had 77 million entries and only one woman won. Any advantage to winning the contest should be considered, especially if this is something you really want to win.
