Heymans announces retirement Wednesday

According to the Canadian Press, Canadian Olympic medallist Emilie Heymans is retiring from diving at the age of 31 in an announcement made on Wednesday.

At the 2012 Olympic Games in London, Heymans made history by becoming the first Canadian to win an Olympic medal at four consecutive Olympic Games and the first female diver to win a medal at four consecutive Olympic Games.

Heymans, from Montreal, won her four Olympic medals from 2000-2012. She won a silver medal at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney in the women's 10m platform synchronized diving competition with Anne Montminy of Montreal, a bronze medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens in the women's 10m platform synchronized diving competition with Blythe Hartley of Edmonton, a silver medal in the women's 10m platform at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London in the women's 3m springboard synchronized diving competition with Jennifer Abel of Montreal.
