Ron Hextall was recently named the Flyer new GM replacing Paul Holmgren who took over as President of the hockey club. Hextall will now be the one in charge of fine tuning the lineup in order to insure the Flyers can make it out of the first round of the playoffs.

While the promotion of Hextall was much ballyhooed by the Flyers brass many fans were skeptical about the promotion. The Flyers faithful were looking for a new face. Someone from outside the organization who could bring a new hockey philosophy to the club.

Instead they got another player from the Flyers past. The Flyers like the Phillies believe in taking care of those who have played for them. There are many past players who hold various positions throughout the Flyers organization.

Still Hextall brings to the Flyers an outside perspective the club needs. As stated on the 700level.com, Hextall before he returned to the Flyers in 2013 as the assistant GM to Holmgren, "had won a Stanley Cup as a front office man with the L.A. Kings, an experience many believe gave him an outside perspective to bring fresh ideas to the Flyers’ culture."

Flyers fans like any other Philly sports fans will remain skeptical until actual changes happen, changes which bring a parade down Broad Street.
