Hershey Felder stars as George Gershwin Alone at the Pasadena Playhouse. Joel Zwick directs and performances begin April 12, 2011. A global live radio broadcast of the production on the WFMT Radio Network will take place on May 2. The Playhouse will also present the popular Hershey Felder’s Great American Songbook Sing-Along, which is scheduled for April 25 and May 9, 2011.
“I have always been a fan of the work of George Gershwin’s musical genius,” said Artistic Director Sheldon Epps, “and I know that our audiences will appreciate to learn more about his life, his art and the creation of his incredible body of music in Hershey Felder’s illuminating theatre piece.”
Hershey Felder, creator and performer of the production stated: “The opportunity to return to perform George Gershwin’s work in Los Angeles, the city in which he lived out his life, is very special. To be able to perform this work one final time in the city of the play’s creation at the beautiful and historic Pasadena Playhouse, one of the few operating theatres in Los Angeles dating from George Gershwin’s lifetime, is a thrilling idea in and of itself.”
George Gershwin Alone performs 8 p.m.Tuesday through Friday, 4 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 and 7 p.m.Sunday April 12 through May 8, with the official press opening on April 17, 2011. Regular ticket price range is from $49 - $69, with Premium Seating available for $100. All preview performances are $10 off the regular ticket price (except Premium Seating). Rush tickets are available for $20 one hour prior to the performance time and are subject to availability.
