A beautiful cinnamon-colored pit bull mix named "Cherry," is being hailed a hero after she successfully alerted her foster mom, Amy Donaldson, to a devastating fire last week, saving her entire Boonville, Ind. family.
According to Bullie Nation, the rescue organization which Donaldson fosters for, the drama unfolded last Wednesday afternoon while Donaldson was enjoying a rare afternoon nap.
While Donaldson slept, a fire ignited in another room of the house, and quickly began to engulf the entire structure.
Though there were other dogs inside of Donaldson's house, none of them did anything as the fire consumed the structure.
Cherry, on the other hand, made it her mission to wake her foster mom; jumping on Donaldson's chest and barking frantically. Cherry's efforts were successful, and she, along with all of Donaldson's other pets and children, were able to safely exit the fiery house.
Inexplicably, two families had previously opted not to adopt Cherry; one just the day before Donaldson was saved.
Fortunately, Cherry does not have to worry about being homeless in the future. After her heroics last week, Amy Donaldson has decided that the beautiful dog is fated to stay with her permanently.
Though Cherry's efforts spared the family from death, the fire did destroy their home.
Right now, Bullie Nation Rescue is trying to help them get back on their feet. Anyone interested in helping can contact the organization at: Bullienationrescue@gmail.com or call 812-302-2627.
