Hero saves bus: Kids lucky woman took action

A hero saved a bus from getting into a potentially tragic accident when a woman took control of the wheel after the driver lost consciousness. According to a March 1 report, Janai Stafford in Baltimore boarded an MTA bus outside of Giant supermarket. Not long after she boarded, the driver said he wasn't feeling well.

The bus was reportedly full of elementary students. Stafford acted quickly when the bus driver collapsed. She managed to put her foot on top of the driver's foot -- slowing the bus -- and pulling it over to the side of the road.

"It just happened. I put my foot on his foot, I wrapped my arm around him, and I steered the bus to the right," Stafford said.

In an ironic twist, Stafford doesn't have a driver's license or permit. She knows how to drive, but hasn't gotten her permit yet.

The bus hero admits she wasn't sure which pedal she was going to press down on when her foot was on top of the bus driver's.

"I wasn't even sure what foot," she said."I'm either gonna press on the gas or press on the brake. Luckily, I pressed on the brake."

Fortunately for everyone on board the vehicle, the woman saved them. Janai Stafford says everyone calls her a hero, but she insists she acted on instinct.
