Hero of Bladehold

Hero of Bladehold will be featured in the upcoming Mirrodin Besieged as the Mirran prerelease promo card (If you choose Phyrexian, you'll grab a Glissa instead).  Hero of Bladehold reveals a new keyword featured in Mirrodin Besieged as well, Battle cry.

Battle cry (whenever this creature attacks, each other attacking creature gets +1/+0 until end of turn)

Whenever Hero of Bladehold attacks, put two 1/1 white Soldier creature tokens onto the battlefield tapped and attacking.

3/4

Hero of Bladehold adds a potent Knight to the ranks, and may be featured in the upcoming Knights vs. Dragons deck.  With a solid 3/4 body providing protection from Lightning Bolt and an extremely significant bolstering battle cry to boost its own troops, Hero of Bladehold is very respectable for 4 mana.

Clever use of the stack will ensure that your 1/1 soldier tokens actually hit the ground as 2/1 attackers, so you'll be swinging with 7 points with just Hero of Bladehold on the initial attack - a sort of baby white Grave Titan, Hero of Bladehold benefits from a big board of smaller creatures. Knight Exemplar may finally get a chance at relevancy, to provide protection for this new hero of Mirrodin.

It's sort of incredible that Hero of Bladehold doesn't generate more "wow factor" as one of Mirrodin Besieged's heralding mythic rares, but we live in an age of titanic monsters and mindsculptors that hit the board at around the same time as our plucky new commander.

Hero of Bladehold lacks evasion and protection from your standard removal spells, although the 4 points of toughness is extremely relevant and might be the edge in getting this knight into Standard battle.

In Limited if Hero of Bladehold is not removed immediately it's likely going to cause huge problems for your opponent as it can run someone over "by itself" in just a few turns.

Get your first shot to play with Hero of Bladehold and rally the ranks of Mirrans everywhere at the Mirrodin Besieged prerelease events, coming up at the end of January.
