Four-year-old Jeremy Triantafilo of Bakersfield, calls his cat Tara his hero and rightfully so, according to a report from 23abc.com on Tuesday, describing how the family cat got up and personal with a dog trying to hurt the cat's family member.
A surveillance video shows the youngster enjoying a beautiful California afternoon, riding his little bicycle, when a dog wanders over to the child and bites the little boy in the leg. The child falls off of his bike, and the dog grabs the child with its mouth - attempting to drag the child away.
From out of the corner of the video, arrived Tara, the cat who has been part of the Triantafilo family since 2008. Tara jumped to the rescue, scared the dog into releasing the child by using her feline skills of hissing, and then chased the dog until he ran away.
The child's mother Erika Triantafilo had no idea that the cat saved the day until her husband showed her the video.
The dog, who belongs to a neighbor, escaped through a fence. The dog was taken to the Bakersfield Animal Control for observation.
Jeremy received a few stitches, but is expected to make a full recovery. Tara is fine, and according to little Jeremy, "Tara is my hero."
Tara is our hero too.
