The Penquis Patriots boys basketball team picked up a huge heal point worthy victory when they defeated Hermon 55-49 in overtime on Monday evening at Penquis high school.

Hermon will get a chance to return the favor when the teams meet up again tonight at Hermon high school.

Trevor Lyford scored 30 points, including his 1000 career point in the Patriots overtime victory.

The Penquis community came out to support Lyford in full force for his big moment.

"It means a lot to me as a basketball player. Reaching 1000 is something you don't think about until it happens,"Lyford said. "The best part about getting 1000 points is seeing the incredible community support. None of this is possible without the incredible community and great teams I have been on the last four years. Getting 1000 felt great but it felt better to look up into the stands and see all your loved ones and community members there."

Tyler Thayer of Hermon high school is only 34 points shy of the 1000 career point milestone.
