Herman Cain endorses Newt Gingrich for President

After Herman Cain said he was for ‘the people’ a week ago, he was a little more specific on Saturday night when he singled out one person he endorses for the presidential race of 2012.  Cain backs Newt Gingrich.  Both Cain and Gingrich are from the state of Georgia.

Herman Cain dropped out of the presidential race last month after several women claimed he put sexually-suggestive moves on them while another woman claimed she had a lengthy affair with him.  He told a Florida crowd that his support goes totally to Gingrich who is another candidate who has had trouble with negative stories of his past taking a toll on his numbers.  During the fight which Gingrich won in South Carolina, several weeks ago, his second wife Marianne Gingrich told ABC’s Nightline television program that her ex-husband Newt wanted an open marriage to include his current wife Callista Gingrich – an allegation he strongly denies.

Negative stories aside, there is no better time for Gingrich to get a strong endorsement from a formerly strong presidential candidate because Gingrich’s poll numbers in Florida are dropping further and further behind Mitt Romney’s numbers with two days to go before the Florida primary.  Unlike Gingrich's strong performance in the South Carolina debates, he's had difficulty coming out as well in the two recent Florida debates.

Nationally, polls show that Gingrich is still ahead of Romney.
