The Tampa Yankees suffered a disappointing loss to the Clearwater Threshers but were back at home at George M. Steinbrenner Field on Wednesday night for the second game of the series, in this matchup Jairo Heredia (ERA 2.30) took the mound for the T-Yanks.
The threshers were on the board first when Heredia allowed consecutive doubles by the Threshers. In the bottom of the 3rd Jose Toussen started the inning by reaching 1st base on a fielding error by the Threshers’ Harold Martinez and then advanced to third base on an error by Clearwater’s left fielder Peter Lavin. A RBI single by Jeff Farnham then tied the game at 1.
Peter O’Brien started the 4th with a single and then advanced to 2nd after a walk by Saxon Butler. A single by Toussen then sent O’Brien home and put Tampa up 2-1.
The T-Yanks were able to tack on another in the 5th as Cito Culver scored off a RBI single by O’Brien; it was now a 3-1 Tampa lead.
In the top o fthe 6th, Clearwater’s Aaron Altherr hit his 11th homerun of the season off a fly ball to left field making it a 3-2 ballgame.
Heredia pitched 7 innings allowing 4 hits and 2 runs; striking out 3. In the top of the 8th Taylor Garrison took over pitching duties for the Yanks.
In the bottom of the 8th a triple by Cody Grice later allowed another run by the T-Yanks to secure Tampa’s lead for a 4-2 ballgame.
With this victory, Heredia earns the win (3-1) and Garrison earns the save (S, 7) after pitching the 8th and 9th innings with just 1 hit allowed.
The Tampa Yankees will take on the Clearwater Threshers on Thursday night at home at 7:00pm with Rafael De Paula (ERA 5.67, 1-2) taking the start.
