If you are a big fan of adorable, fuzzy alpacas then you don't want to miss the chance to spend some time with them this weekend at the National Alpaca Farms Days celebration at Alpaca Meadows in Mansfield, Ohio. It is approximately a 90 minute drive from Cleveland.
National Alpaca Farm Days Taking place on Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29, this free tour of the alpaca farm not only provides guests with the opportunity to meet and pet the Huacaya and Suri alpacas but also to learn more about these fiber-bearing animals.
Other activities at the event include demonstrations of spinning, felting and loom knitting.
A Bit About Alpaca Fleece Alpaca fleece is softer and sturdier than cashmere and lighter than sheep's wool. The fleece from alpacas is very rich and silky and has considerable luster. It produces warm, silky, durable feather-weight garments and provides a spectacular amount of insulation and warmth to those who wear the garments.
Alpaca Meadows also has a new Farm Store on the property where fiber and clothing are available for purchase.Visitors will be able to purchase both natural colors and hand-painted Alpaca yarn, hand-spun yarn and rovings and batts for spinning and felting
Handmade alpaca items for sale include Alpaca socks (very nice during an Ohio winter), blankets, hats, scarves, rugs and even finger puppets for the kids.
Hours for the National Alpaca Farm Days celebration are noon - 5 p.m. both Saturday, September 28 and Sunday, September 29. Admission is free. Parking is free.
