Proverbs 16:1-3 (NLT)
We can make our own plans, but the LORD gives the right answer. People may be pure in their own eyes, but the LORD examines their motives. Commit your actions to the LORD and your plans will succeed.
As a consummate planner, I rely heavily on schedules and ongoing lists to keep things in order. I embrace the plan and adhere strictly to it. Spontaneity and randomness is not my thing. I struggle somewhat with keeping up with the clock but strive to maintain a timely agenda in my uttermost weakness. I just heard my husband say, “Amen!” The Word of God tells us that it is human nature to make our own plans. After all human beings are created in the Image of God who is the Ultimate Planner. Just taking a glimpse in the design and complexity of the physical composition of a person indicates flawless creation of the Creator even down to the basic cell. Yet God in His Quest for the honest devotion and pure love of His People gave us a will to choose which way we would go and who we would follow. Unfortunately, many have wondered from God’s Plan and Purpose finding it restrictive and overbearing in the flesh. Of course, we do! Sin has overridden the heart and mind of mankind limiting one’s perspective to the here and now ignoring the day of decision that will precipitate the entirety of forever concerning our soul. After isn’t that was grace is all about, people’s inability to adhere to God’s Plan and accept His Purpose for our life? Not exactly… Grace and mercy allow us to continue this journey called life in the consummate hope of our Creator and Father that we will return home and claim our inheritance as Children of God. If we will just commit every action of our life beginning with the motives of heart to the Lord, every one of our plans will succeed!
Proverbs 16:9 (NLT) We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps.
What is the point of making plans if the Lord is determining our steps? The Word of God becomes relevant in our life when we take it, break it open, partake of it, and fully digest it. After all, it is the Bread of Life. God’s Plan and Purpose is revealed in His Word. So, back to my question, “What is the point of making plans if the Lord has predetermined one’s steps?” Life is in fact predetermined. God has already determined the course of our life. Everyone will agree that we all are born dying and will one day succumb to natural death as our body releases our spirit. The time this occurs is decided by the Lord before we take in our first breath. The Creator has shaped and molded our life before we were planted in our mother’s womb. And here is what His Word says about that:
1) Jeremiah 29:11-14 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you,” says the LORD. “I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes. I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land.”
2) Psalm 139:16-17 – “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!”
3) Romans 8:28-30 – “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory.”
God created you with a plan which means that you have a purpose. He also gave you a free will to decide between life and death or blessing and cursing. “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the LORD, you will live long in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” (Deuteronomy 30:19-20) God’s Plan never was interrupted. It is in full effect. The purpose for your life is to love and serve the Lord. Obeying Him and committing your life firmly to Him. If you choose to go the other way, His Plan is still working in your life. You have just decided not to accept it. If I hand you a gift wrapped in a shiny box with a giant bow and you reject it, then it doesn’t immediately evaporate in thin air. I will work day and night to get you to accept it because I want you to have it. I want to bless you! Every detail of your life is just part of God’s Plan to get His Goodness, Mercy and Grace to you His Beloved!
Proverbs 19:21 (NLT) You can make many plans, but the LORD’s purpose will prevail.
The Lord’s Purpose is to grant us eternal life so we will live with the Lord forever. It is His Ultimate Goal. He goes to great lengths. It is goal that no one will perish but that we all would accept the Gift of Eternal Life which means that while God is working out your life to perfection, He is working in the life of every individual you come into contact with as well. This world and the things in it are non-consequential to the Lord. Nothing that happens here changes His Plan because it has all been predetermined to result in blessing for those who are called by His Name. We allow these situations, circumstances and troubles to interrupt our pursuit of God’s Plan, Purpose and Promises for our life. God just keeps moving along waiting for us to come to. So here’s the plan:
1) Romans 16:25-27 – “Now all glory to God, who is able to make you strong, just as my Good News says. This message about Jesus Christ has revealed his plan for you Gentiles, a plan kept secret from the beginning of time. But now as the prophets foretold and as the eternal God has commanded, this message is made known to all Gentiles everywhere, so that they too might believe and obey him. All glory to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, forever. Amen.”
2) Romans 10:9 – “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
3) Matthew 19:26 – “Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”
4) John 11:25 – “Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.”
5) John 14:12 – “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.”
Our life is about faith and belief. It is God’s Plan for us to live by faith and believe in Him. It is the sum total of our existence. It will change how we live not because the Lord has changed His Mind but because we have decided to accept His Purpose and live by faith trusting and believing in the Lord demonstrated by how we live and what we do. The Good News is out – God chose us to be His People. We must confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord AND believe in our heart. With God nothing is impossible without Him we are powerless. Jesus is the Resurrection and Life to dead dreams. He wants you to live in His Grace, Mercy and Love to experience His Kindness, Affection and Goodness in your life. It has been His Plan from the beginning. Those who decide to use the faith given to them (Romans 12:2) and purse the Eternity planted in their heart (Ecclesiastes 3:11) will find their purpose and live a successful life as everything lines up with God’s Plan.
Psalm 33:6-11 (NLT)
The LORD merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word and all the stars were born. He assigned the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. Let the whole world fear the LORD, and let everyone stand in awe of him. For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command. The LORD frustrates the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes. But the LORD’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken.
The Lord’s Plans stand firm FOREVER. He knows you. He made you. Your choices in life do not surprise Him. The Lord’s Intentions concerning you can never be shaken no matter what you do, how far into darkness you wander, or how tightly you embrace your sin. He will constantly pursue you with Goodness, Mercy and Love until you decide to receive it. He will never give up. It’s funny that the sea and oceans respond to the Word of God but a lot of His People do not. God loves you. He has loved you all along and will continue to do so no matter what you decide to choose – life or death. He is unchangeable. God’s Word delineates His Plan for your life. (Psalm 119:91) It indeed is a lamp for our feet and a light to our path. (Psalm 119:105) There will still be times when we just do not understand what the Lord is doing. Faith is essential in these times anchored by confident hope. (Hebrews 6:19) God’s Plan is for His Glory. He uses other people and even problems to reveal His Power for His Glory in our life. (Exodus 14:3-4) People are not the enemy…they are in the same boat as you. There are also times when God hides His Plan from us to protect our destiny. (Genesis 18:16-33) Otherwise we will try to bargain with God accepting substitutions and compromises rather than His Very Best. God cannot tell you everything that He is doing it is too numerous to list. (Psalm 40:4-5) We must plant our faith and trust in the Lord cultivating more confident hope that will help us stay put when we do not know, understand or recognize the Hand of God at work. But rest assured He is working His Plan for your life. Bad things will still happen to good people. Evil people will still prosper. Troubles will come. Testing is inevitable. You are not going to see the Lord in everything you are going through right away but trust me He is there. But we are not alone… ”And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.” (Romans 8:26-27)
Psalm 40:4-5 (NLT)
Oh, the joys of those who trust the LORD, who have no confidence in the proud
or in those who worship idols. O LORD my God, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them.
God’s Plan is working in your life. Will you accept it? Open it? Use it? Enjoy it? Well that my friend is up to you!
I Corinthians 1:24-25 (NLT)
But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.
