For Botox babies (we know who we are) who rely on the injection for frown lines and other signs of aging on our faces, the news that the product has been approved for crow’s feet is music to our ears. According to a press release mailed out on behalf of New York plastic surgeon Joseph Eviatar,MD, who is also surgical director of Chelsea Eye Cosmetic, Botox was approved by the FDA for use in treating wrinkles around the corners of our eyes.

The board certified oculofacial plastic surgeo, has been treating crow’s feet with Botox off-label since the early 90s. “As a specialized cosmetic eye surgeon, I have perfected a special technique in which I inject Botox not only laterally into the crow’s feet but also minimally close to the eyelid. This creates a much more even, natural appearance. It softens and smooths the smile and reduces the deep smile lines rather than causing a frozen look or distorting the smile",” explains Eviatar. Non-specialized surgeons only inject the crow’s feet which “freeze” the area when you smile, but the crêpey skin and wrinkles will still appear under the eyes causing an unnatural look.

If you don’t know, Botox Cosmetic is a purified form of the botulinum toxin that is injected in tiny doses into problem areas of the face that makes muscles relax and diminish or eliminate wrinkles. It takes about a week before you see the results which can last for up to four months.

Botox is offered in day spas and dermatologist offices, be sure the person administering the injection is qualified to do so. For local Botox boost go see Dr. Mom at le jolie medi spa in Studio City, California (13041 Ventura Blvd., 818-501-1114), which specializes in facial rejuvenation through state-of-the-art methods and techniques.
