Although Valentine’s Day has sped by, there are some unusual reasons to keep the party going. February is Adopt a Rescued Rabbit Month, Avocado and Banana Month, Sweet Potato Month and Heal a Broken Heart Month.
Begin the month’s festivities with Francis Coppola 2012 Sofia Rose ($19), a beautifully luscious wine, from the shapely, sexy bottle to its dry, fruity soul.
The seductive selection – a blend of 55 percent syrah, 35 percent pinot noir and 10 percent grenache – shows off an aromatic cascade of strawberries, cherries and orange blossom. This dry wine is balanced with flavors of juicy fruit, tea leaves and surprising spice.
Pour this chilled with spicy Asian dishes and shrimp Louie.
The winery’s Scarlet Label Diamond Red Blend ($18) is a unique “sky’s the limit” with no particular roadmap in mind.
“It was inspired by Scarlet O’Hara of “Gone with the Wind”, a cinematic masterpiece, a story of hope, survival and love that transcends life’s tumultuous events,” said winemaker Corey Beck. “Like its namesake, Scarlet Label Red Blend is complex, tempestuous and alluring. It has all the sophistical and refinement of Scarlet O’Hara but bold presence and rich, spicy nuances that make it anything but demure.”
It exudes boysenberry and anise aromas and juicy cherry, plum and sweet oak flavors.
And, don’t forget to raise your glass today to “Chocolate Mint Day.”
