Here kitty, kitty!

The cat eye, the make up application named for our salacious feline friends, is simple to master. The look is an illusionary method aimed at making your eyes look bigger and brighter- no matter the shape of your eyes or how they are set. It can be used as an every day look or a more dramatic evening look depending on the coloring and how you line the eye.

Here is what you'll need:

Primer

Three different eye shadows - a light color with a shimmer, a dark (don't be afraid if it looks too dark on the palatte) shade, and a medium color. For this example, the light color will be an eggshell with a tint of shimmer, the dark will be a deep chocolate brown, and the medium color is a matte taupe.

Liner - a sharped khol pencil or liquid liner

Mascara

Brushes - a shadow/crease brush (should be a bit boxy, slightly angled in the middle of the brush with medium bristles), a blending brush (longer bristles and a bit poofy), and a smudge brush (short and chunky bristles)

What to do-

Use your finger to apply a small dollop of primer all over your eye lids from the lashline to the browline. (just like painting a wall, the primer creates a smooth surface on your skin for your shadow)

Take your shadow brush with your lightest color and PRESS it on your lid from the lash line to the eye brow crease (don't swipe your brush- pressing concentrates the pigment making your make up stay longer with the orignial pigment and creates less mess) It's important to press the eggshell color on the inner corners of your eye (near the tear duct) as it will make your eyes immediately *pop* and brighten!

Then take your medium color (the taupe) with your shadow brush and press it into your eye's natural crease from the inner side to the middle of your eye

Take your darkest color on your smudge brush (tap it before you put it on your skin to prevent dark flakes) and press a line from the center of your eye crease to about two brush presses past where your eye begins to curve (the line should be extending straight - don't follow the natural curve of your eye downward)

Connect the first extending line with a line at a perpendicular angle back toward your the outer part of your eye, making the downward curve of a "C" shape

Take your blending brush with a bit of the taupe color and blend the dark lines in a light downward stroke (blending will detract from the severity of the lines and create the smokey cat shape effect)

Depending on the time of day/your preference of look, take your liner and line the inner  top and bottom eye rims, connecting them at the outer eye and connecting them at a slightly upward angle. Take your smudge brush and even out any shakey lines

Apply two coats of mascara and...

Viola! Easy classic cat eye shape in minutes.

Every eye shape is different - therefore practice on where your individual lines should end/begin to create the best looking effect for your eyes. Play with colors and shades to add variety and drama to your look.
