Jillian Bullock of Philadelphia, PA, shared her story of perseverance.
She described her tragedy, “During my life, I've had to overcome growing up with my stepfather, who was a member of the Italian Mafia. I dealt with drugs, violence, criminal activity, homelessness, prostitution, rape, domestic violence, and cancer.
While I was going through all that I have, I knew it was always important to have what I call a fighting spirit. I had to learn to push past those horrific experiences in order to go on to achieve my dreams and goals. I held on tight to what I wanted to accomplish in my life, which helped me have a reason to get up in the morning, even on days I didn't want to do anything. Having something to look forward to and to strive for really helped me overcome some truly difficult times.”
Her faith helped her cope, “I always knew, even in my darkest hour, that God had a plan for me. He didn't allow me to come through all I have without a reason. When I listened to God, things went well in my life. When I strayed from Him, that's when I lost my way and I suffered because of my stubbornness.
Also, I do believe a great deal in going to therapy when things are truly tough. Sometimes a person needs someone to talk to in order to help him or her see things clearly.”
Jillian talked about her book, “My book is entitled Here I Stand. It's a memoir and tells of my life from 9 years old, when I saw my first Mob hit, to age 20 when I got off the streets, kicked drugs, went back to school, and got an internship with the Wall Street Journal newspaper. I finally self-published and it became available for sale in February 2012.”
She helps others, “Through my company, Jillian Bullock Enterprises, LLC, I have Fighting Spirit Empowerment programs, which I designed to help empower people to deprogram self-defeating and negative behaviors in order to obtain happiness, success and greatness despite the odds and obstacles against them. I get booked to do motivational and empowerment speeches, workshops, seminars and lectures.”
