When you say here comes the big weekend most people would consider that you’re talking about the Super Bowl. However in Fort Worth the Super Bowl takes a somewhat second place to the annual Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. The third weekend of the show is traditionally called the big weekend. For on this weekend comes the largest attendance in the most activities.
The largest single attendance day was last year’s third weekend Saturday with an attendance of one hundred and fifty-seven thousand eight hundred (157, 800). In the one hundred and eighteen year history of this legendary event day attendance was just last year. Could this year with good weather surpass that figure?
This weekend will begin with an 8 AM show in virtually every livestock category that the show hosts. The events include a Junior Lamb show, cattle show, Palomino horse performance show, rabbit show and three different cattle shows. And all that just starts off Saturday morning events.
On Saturday there will be three rodeo performances at 10, 2 PM and 7:30 PM. And in the midst of those three performances will be a Gypsy Horse Registry of America show in the Justin arena at 4 o’clock and a Miniature Horse show along with.
On Sunday there will be the Gypsy Horse Registry of America show, a Junior Lamb show, Miniature horse show, a rabbit show and cowboy church in the auditorium. Plus, there will be two more rodeo performances at 2 PM and 7:30 PM.
And let’s not forget the multitude of shopping that is available on the grounds. This year there are now three major areas for you to shop and browse to your heart’s content. The largest of these three is in the Amon Carter Exhibit Hall, the second is in its traditional place inside the Justin arena and now there is a third also inside the Justin arena on the north end where horse stalls used to be.
With all the shows and the shopping in the food you must not forget to visit the carnival midway. The midway has been a star attraction for young and old alike for decades. Whether you’re into games of chance or thrill rides you are sure to find it in this year’s midway.
