One of the greatest needs for animal rescue groups is temporary foster homes. Many groups don’t have a shelter and rely on their network of foster homes to care for the animal until it finds its forever home. Organizations that do have shelters frequently need foster homes for very young kittens or puppies and special needs animals or when their shelter is full. From time to time I will feature pets in the metro Atlanta area that need a foster home. One of the current “foster pet” needs is Hercules the cat at Planned PEThood in Duluth.
Several weeks ago, Planned PEThood “liberated” a 14 pound male kitty from a trap. He had some wounds, an injured ear, bad teeth and an upper respiratory infection. They felt like he needed them and since he was so large they named him Hercules.
Hercules has now been neutered and treated for his various medical issues. He is living at the Planned PETthood facility in Duluth but is being picked on by the other cats – even those that are one-third his size. He has been dubbed the “cowardly lion.” Hercules is afraid of big dogs but seems to be OK with small dogs. Here’s a description of Hercules from the Planned PEThood Facebook page:
“Hercules was definitely somebody's very loved pet at some point. The sweet people who rescued him said he walked right into the carrier. He walks away (well really runs!) from any kitties that pick on him and has been using the litter box with no problems. He just wants lots and lots of love and he really likes belly rubs!
He really likes to eat. Like, a lot. And he's chatty. And he just hurtles his whole body at you for hugs. He'll knock you over if you're not paying attention!”
Send an email to Planned PEThood - info@plannedpethoodga.org - if you are interested in fostering or adopting Hercules.
