Herbie Hancock, The Roots and lots more for 2014 Monterey Jazz Festival

The Monterey Jazz Festival is out with the lineup for this year's 57th edition of the shindig, and there should be something to please everyone from traditionalists to nu jazzers.

Big name headliners include keyboard legend Herbie Hancock, standards hero Michael Feinstein, sax explorer Charles Lloyd, hip-hop fusioneers The Roots, piano tidal wave Jason Moran, hot stuff vocalist Cecile McLorin Slavant and trumpet sensation Ambrose Akinmusire.

Supremely energetic and versatile drummer Eric Harland will be the artist in residence, performing in multiple formats, including several combos with Charles Lloyd, who'll have an equally expansive schedule as the festival's showcase artist.

Pianist Aaron Diehl will perform a newly commissioned piece paying tribute to fellow pianist, Modern Jazz Quartet anchor and MJF honcho John Lewis.
