Herb Silverman to speak in Sarasota

Herb Silverman, founder of the Secular Coalition of America  will be speaking to the First Friday Freethinkers at the UU of Sarasota on Friday Dec 2nd at 10 am.

Herb Silverman is a well-known Humanist. He is a Humanist Celebrant, a board member for the American Humanist Association, an advisory board member to the Secular Student Alliance, and a member of the advisory council to Americans United for Separation of Church and State. And if that wasn't enough, he is also a   Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at the College of Charleston SC.

What most people don't know about Herb is that he successfully challenge a law in South Carolina that prohibited the non-religious from holding office there. His first attempt to become a notary failed. So he ran for governor. He didn't win, but eight years later, the SC Supreme Court ruled in his favor and struck down the law barring atheists from holding public office.

The UU of Sarasota is located at: 3975 Fruitville Road in Sarasota.
