What do basil, brews and bittersweet all have in common? Guests visiting the Country Inns in the White Mountains on June 7-8, 2014 will have the opportunity to taste all of these and much more during the first annual Herb, Food and Beer Tour: A Celebration of Local Flavors. This delicious event, combines tastings and tours at ten White Mountain inns with cooking demonstrations, a plant-to-plate “herb-inspired” dinner and overnight stays at a choice of premier Mt Washington Valley, NH inns. Formerly focused solely on herb tastings, trivia and recipes at each inn, the Country Inns in the White Mountains have ramped up their annual herb tour to include a celebration of local flavors including visits to breweries, chocolate makers and family-owned farms on top of the tours, tastings, recipes. Add in cooking demonstrations from member-inn chefs, and an herb-inspired dinner featuring locally grown and created specialty foods then top it off with a spring stay at a choice of ten Country Inns in the White Mountains, and not only will you take home inspiration, you’ll leave with a year of culinary ideas and a full stomach!

The perfect spring follow-up to their annual Inn to Inn Holiday Cookie and Candy Tour and just in time for gardening season, Country Inns in the White Mountains guests will usher in spring with a weekend celebrating the garden-to-table movement combined with a relaxing learning getaway. Here’s how it works: On June 7-8, 2014 join ten premier White Mountains inns for the Mt. Washington Valley Herb, Food and Beer Tour: A Celebration of Local Flavors from 11am-4pm each day, as each inn presents an in-depth look at a popular culinary herb paired with tastings of local flavors along the way. Tourgoers will take home herb trivia, historical facts, and recipes while tasting a different herb-inspired dish at each inn. In addition, cooking demonstrations have been added at certain inns too. Participants will go home with a folder of new recipes from dishes they tasted plus interesting herbal lore . And this year, stops have been added along the way to offer a bit of local flavor, including Moat Mountain Brewery, Tuckerman’s Brewery, Bavarian Chocolate Haus, The Local Grocer, Earle Family Farm and Weston’s Farm.

Five Northern inns (Jackson, NH to Albany, NH) will be open on Saturday, June 7th and five different Southern inns (Conway to Chocorua) will be open on Sunday, June 8, 2014, with additional featured local flavors added.

The 1785 Inn featuring basil with chef demo from 12:00 noon - 2:00 pm
The Local Grocer - recipes, smoothie demo and samples 1 - 2:00 pm

Old Red Inn & Cottages featuring parsley
Inn at Crystal Lake and Pub featuring cilantro with chef demo from 1 - 3:00 pm
Tuckerman's Brewery - private tour with tastings at 3:15 pm

Weston's Farm Stand – offering recipes, greenhouses, farm market

The Mt. Washington Valley Herb, Food and Beer Tour: A Celebration of Local Flavors is an annual event held the first weekend in June available primarily for those booking a two-night package at one of the ten Country Inns in the White Mountains. The Lodging packages include one-or-two-night stays, herb-themed breakfasts each morning, two tickets to the tour, and an optional herb-inspired dinner add-on. Package prices vary from inn to inn and also depend upon room choice. Tour tickets are available in advance by reserving a lodging package directly from participating inns. Those not wishing to reserve an overnight package may reserve and purchase tickets between May 11-June 2, 2014 for $40 per person by calling 207-935-1269. Three course plant-to-plate herb inspired dinners will take place at the Darby Field Inn, 1785 Inn, Snowvillage Inn and Inn at Crystal Lake throughout the weekend. Dinners are available to the public for $45 per person (not including tax, tip or beverages) if purchased outside a lodging package. Dinners may be included as part of the Local Flavors lodging package along with accommodations, breakfast and tour tickets (or guests may opt for a package that does not include dinner; package options will vary by inn).
