Henry County Schools February 2013 Study Session

Henry County, GA - As the Henry County Schools February Study Session was Called-to-Order District Superintendent, Dr. Ethan Hildreth brought the following items to the Boards attention:

1. The dates and times for the 2013 high school graduation ceremonies and scheduled Attendance (docx) locations.

2. A new proposed Henry County Board of Education (HCBOE) Policy, BCBF, Rules of Order (pdf).

Mr. Pickett Assistant to the Superintendent provided the following information:

1. The HCBOE has received five Letters of Intent for Start-up Charter Schools, listed:

2. A Legislative Update (pdf) of current legislative actions being considered by the Georgia General Assembly.

Mr. Aaryn Schmuhl Assistant Superintendent of Learning and Leadership Services, then announced that the 2013 Henry County STAR Breakfast has been set for 8:00 AM, February 28, 2013 at the Eagle's Landing Country Club.

Dr. Brian Blanton, a co-administrator of the Henry County Schools online Impact Academy asked the board to consider proposed revisions to HCBOE DRAFT Policy JBCB, Non-resident Students (pdf). The proposed change would allow Non-resident Students to take classes online. Board member, Mr. Mike Griffin was concerned about cost recovery. Dr. Blanton stated that those issues would be addresses through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Non-Resident Students home school system.

Mr. Rodney Bowler, Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services, announced the annual review of Student and Employee Handbooks for the 2013-14 school year, held between February and May each year for the purpose of adding, deleting and revising content.

Parents, students, and employees are encouraged to submit comments and suggestions to Ms. Leslie Cheatwood, Coordinator of Administrative Services - leslie.cheatwood@henry.k12.ga.us.

Mr. Bowler also asked the Board to consider the adoption of a new Board Policy DO - School Properties Disposal Procedures (docx)

Mr. Scott Pierce, Director of Technology Services, presented an updated agreement with schoolwires, and a contract with ENA Services for the Boards approval at the regular meeting on Monday, February 11, 2013.

Mr. Cliff Shearouse presented the Bids (pdf) for upgrading GPS systems to our buss fleet for the Boards for consideration, and approval at the meeting on Monday, February 11, 2013.

Mr. Allen Guimarin, Executive Director of Facilities and Maintenance, provided a Construction Report and SPLOST update (doc).

Mr. Jeff Allie, Assistant Superintendent for Financial Services, presented the Consolidated Application Budgets for FY 2013 (pdf) for federal and state budgets and the Comprehensive Local Education Authority (LEA) Improvement Plan (CLIP) to the Henry County Board of Education for approval on Monday, February 11, 2013.

The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) requires that all districts submit an approved consolidated budget once GaDOE has completed the budget approval process.
