The evening was full of joy and celebration. It felt as if I was part of a Chinese family last night. I learned a lot about the Chinese culture an also the connection between Hennessy and China, as Hennessy first shipped it cognacs to China in 1859 and is now one of the biggest buyers of cognac in the Asian community and the world.

Here was the inspired cocktail of the night below:

Chinese New Year 2014

“The Wooden Horse”

3 oz Hennessy Privilege

.25 oz fresh lemon juice

.25 oz simple syrup

Cherry wood smoke

Garnish: Cherry

Glass: Snifter or rocks

Method: add all ingredients to a mixing glass and stir with ice until well chilled. On a flat surface light cherry wood chips on fire, once the chips start to smoke place the snifter or rocks glass over them to contain the smoke. Take the glass off the smoking wood and strain the cocktail into the smoke filled glass.

Note: instead of the cherry wood smoke you can sub in .25 oz lapsang souchong tea.
