Hennen scores 1,000th career point and hits 8 triples in Ada-Borup win

Scoring 1,000 points in a basketball career is impressive. Shooting 100% from 3-point land is impressive. Doing both acts in the same game is, simply put, doubly impressive.

Ada-Borup's Jace Hennen completed both impressive feats by scoring his 1,000th career point and making all 8 attempts from beyond the arc to lead his team with 32 points (18-3) to a 94-55 win over Mahnomen (7-11) on Tuesday in Ada.

Hennen reached the milestone 4 minutes into the game, as he surpassed the 7 points needed by swishing a baseline jumper after he drained two quick triples.

Hennen's first career point came during his sophomore year at a tournament game in Thief River Falls, ever since then, he's been an asset his coach Trevor Stewart could call on to produce offensively.

"Jace's performance was phenomenal," Stewart said. "He knew how many points away he was, but he played like a standout player would... Most kids would be nervous, but he stepped up, hit shots and delivered not only to reach 1,000 points but to help win the game as he so often does."

One would think with all this high praise and success, a high school player may falter under pressure or become arrogant, but not Hennen, as he is no stranger to the athletic limelight.

Hennen led Ada-Borup to its third and fourth consecutive state football appearances from behind center, and he has played major roles in sub-section and section championship basketball games.

"Jace complemented our star players in his sophomore year from regular season games to the section championship," Stewart said. "He started as a player that could attract a defense's attention away from our scorers and has developed into the best player on the floor for us today."

But don't tell Hennen he's Ada-Borup's best player, as he will only do what's expected from a leader by pushing aside the complement and crediting not himself but the rest of the team.

"It feels great to reach 1,000 points, but my success is owed to my teammates," Hennen said. "I could have never done this without the other four guys on the court over the years, and I owe just as much respect to each of them as they have given me."
