A Henderson County, North Carolina school bus overturned today after classes dismissed early, WLOS13 reported January 28.

Students from Apple Valley Middle School and North Henderson High School were involved in an accident Tuesday afternoon when the bus they were traveling in lost traction while going downhill on Livingston Road, causing it to hit a ditch and overturn.

The winter weather led to the decision to dismiss classes at 1 p.m.

The bus driver, Harold Hyatt and six students were on the bus at the time. Hyatt reported the bus began skidding, and he was unable to get it back under control due to icy roads. School officials report speed was not a factor in the accident.

Henderson County Assistant Superintendent Bill Parker told WLOS,

"from what I understand, minor ankle injury but they have transported that student to the hospital."
