A quick survey of Tulsa area churches indicates that a lot of Christian groups are involved in doing something to help with the needs in Haiti. Some churches are collecting items to be shipped to Haiti, others are taking offerings for specific ministries and still others have or are planning on sending mission teams in the help in the rebuilding process.
Recently I raised the issue that questions needed to be asked about what and who was going to do the best job of helping Haiti in the long run and what was going to be the most helpful way to help. Well, I am not the only one asking those questions. The Chalmers Center is hosting a three part webinar to help churches, relief agencies, and individuals respond appropriately to the crisis in Haiti—helping the Haitian people to take ownership of the rebuilding process.
The webinars are scheduled for February 17th, February 24th, and March 3rd, from 1 to 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (US). They will be presented by Steve Corbett and Dr. Brian Fikkert, authors of “When Helping Hurts: How to Alleviate Poverty Without Hurting the Poor...and Yourself."
Registration is required but there is no charge for participating. This is a great opportunity for churches, individuals or organizations who are trying to figure out best how to help with the needs in Haiti.
