Helpful tips for Temple Run

Temple Run is one of the hottest new games in the Apps Store. For those avid players, here are some helpful tips on which power-ups are a coin worth being spent.

The Coin Magnet is great for the objectives when you need to collect more coins than you can possibly imagine, such as the Lump Sum (500), Payday (750), and Money Bags (1,000). However, try to stay away from the floating magnet when trying to achieve the "Allergic to Gold" objective which consists of running 1,000m collecting no coins.

The Mega Coin power-up (the puzzle pieces) help you earn more coins. The more times you upgrade that, the more coins you will earn every time you jump for it. This, too, will help you earn more coins for those heavy-coined objectives.

The power-up with the three different colored diamonds allows you to multiply the value of your coins. This is really only helpful after about 1000m, but when you're there you'll see red coins mixed with yellow ones. These indicate double valued coins. When you reach 2500m, you might start to see blue coins if you've upgraded this power-up.

As far as the Invisibility Boost, this is convenient only if you care about not having to jump over trees and gaps, and sliding under or jumping over the fire chains. It only lasts a little while, but will allow you to avoid all of the previously mentioned obstacles.

Lastly, the Increase Boost is a power-up that will allow your runner to run very fast 250, 500, 750, 1000, etc. meters ahead. The only problem with this power-up is that you will often miss many of the coins that you may have needed or wanted.

To enable any of the power-ups it will cost you 250, and to achieve on of the objectives, you must enable all of them.

Other tips:

  • Be careful when turning or jumping, because your phone or iPod might not pick it up correctly. Be sure to make your movements a little more exaggerated than usual if this is happening.
  • To make sure that you grab all the coins when you're jumping, jump right as you pick up the final coin.
  • You can absolutely fall off of the viney/rocky areas, so remember not to be too greedy when trying to acquire coins via tilting.
  • Turning left at a dead end is typically worse that turning right, so I've found.
  • Unless you're really into the game, there really isn't a need for purchasing coins; you earn so many from just playing.
