Help your dog - whether a longtimer or that brand new pup you adopted over the holidays- become a valued community member!
The American Kennel Club (AKC) created the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification program to reward responsible ownership and canine good manners in the home and in the community. Their six-week class works specifically on teaching you and your canine companion how to have a wonderful relationship and how to present yourselves well in the community.
These classes are now available at the Humane Society Silicon Valley begining THIS Saturday.
Classes begin : Saturday, January 28, 2012
Time: 3:30 PM - 4:20 PM
If interested, DawgHugger highly suggests that you sign up NO LATER than this Thursday, 1/26/12 to assure a space for you and your pet. These courses fill up fast.
Course Topics and Behaviors Taught include:
- Accepting a friendly stranger
- Sitting politely for petting
- Walking through a crowd
- Reaction to another dog
- Reaction to a distraction,
- And more!
This class is taught by Cecilia Sternzon, CPDT-KA, MBA
On graduation day, you and your dog will have the opportunity to take the Canine Good Citizen test. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test qualify to receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club. To learn more, visit the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen Program website. The one-time class fee of $150 covers all 6 classes you and your dog will attend together(Remember - they are teaching YOU, not just your pup). And you can feel great knowing that a portion of your training class fees benefit the homeless animals in our community.
