The Cub Scouts of Weston need your help--and all they are asking for is your garbage! Thanks to a program run by Terracycle, much of our every day trash can be shipped (postage paid) to be recycled. In return, each item helps the Cub Scouts earn points which are then converted into a cash donation. More information about the program is available at http://www.terracycle.net.
"It is a great opportunity to engage the boys and the community in an activity that teaches responsibility, good citizenship, and stewardship of our natural resources -- all important values for our Cub Scouts," said Bear Den Leader Cathi O'Malley.
This ongoing fundraiser will make it easy for you to drop off the items listed below. Please collect any of these items to donate in plastic bags or boxes. They do not need to be cleaned, but contained in a non-sticky way if possible! All brands are acceptable.
Drop donations at the home of Tiger Den Leader Shane Bartee, 27105 Webster Court (on the left behind the library) or at the locations listed below. Just leave your donation on the porch. Please call 816-640-9971 or email Bartees8@gmail.com if you have any questions or suggestions.
Items to be collected are
· JUICE POUCHES (with or without straws, any brand)
· CHEESE PACKAGING (any brand to include sliced, sticks, shredded, blocks, cream cheese, cottage cheese, etc.)
· SCOTCH TAPE DISPENSERS (any brand)
· PERSONAL CARE/BEAUTY MAKE-UP PACKAGING (to include shampoo, lotion, creams and everything else except hair spray, nail polish and polish remover.)
· GPS systems
· Laptops
· Cellphones
· Digital cameras
· MP3 players
· Keyboard and/or mouse
· Inkjet cartridges
Please note that citizens may also drop off all e-waste at the downtown recycling site in a special marked container. Juice pouches will also be collected daily in a special marked container in the Elementary Cafeteria.
"Since we are operating on limited funds, this will help fund necessary programs, badges and achievement awards for the boys," Mrs. O'Malley explained.
So think before you throw it away and considering putting your trash to work for the greater good.
