The French Quarter is an easy place to feel attached to. To walk its streets one can feel as if they've been transported back in time, or enchanted by the unique architecture and old-world charm. The smells of amazing food, the sounds of music everywhere, and a prolific presence of history. The Quarter is not just a tourist attraction, it's a natural treasure, and it's also home to a great many people.
As anywhere, upkeep is important in dealing with time, weather, and sadly, abuse like graffiti. So if you'd like to be a part of making the Quarter graffiti-free then here's a fun and rewarding event to sign up for.
Started in 2010, the French Quarter Business Association along side other French Quarter groups created a neighborhood initiative called the Vieux Carre Graffiti Abatement Program. This Saturday, January 12, come join in the VC-GAP's beautification effort.
Volunteers will check in at 9 A.M. at the New Orleans Police Department's 8th District in the courtyard. You'll receive a work t-shirt (while supplies last) and cleaning products and tools for the clean-up project. Afterward, volunteers will be treated to lunch provided by Creole Cuisine at Royal House.
