Are you ready for some hard work, fun and the satisfaction that comes from restoring trails on Colorado’s fourteeners? Plenty of volunteer opportunities remain this summer to get out and get active with like-minded individuals on a trail maintenance project with the Colorado Fourteeners Initiative (CFI).

Here are three upcoming projects where you can make a difference in the fragile alpine environment. For a full list of volunteer projects see the CFI web site.

A 'Capitol' Idea: Capitol Peak Backcountry Project, August 23-26
This four-day volunteer backpacking project will focus on trail maintenance in the Capitol-Daly area.

When: Thursday, August 23 through Sunday, August 26
Project: Backpacking, trail maintenance.
Food: CFI provides all food from lunch on day one through lunch on day four.
What you bring: Backpacking gear (backpack, tent, sleeping bag, etc). CFI provides all tools and cooking equipment.

Everyone on Evans: Mount Evans, August 25
In one day a team of volunteers will help maintain the popular climbing trail from Summit Lake towards the Mt Evans summit.

When: Saturday, August 25
Project: One-day trail maintenance project in Summit Lake area.
Food: Bring your own lunch.
What you bring: Long pants, boots, and a daypack with clothing layers, water, and your lunch. CFI provides all tools necessary for the project.

Grinnin' on Grays: Grays and Torreys Peaks, September 8-9
Over two-days, volunteers will perform trail maintenance in the Stevens Gulch area.

When: Saturday, September 8 - Sunday, September 9 (car camping available the evening of Friday, September 7)
Project: Two-day trail maintenance project, car camping at Stevens Gulch Trailhead.
Food: Bring your own food for this project.
What you bring: Long pants, boots, and a daypack with clothing layers, water, and your lunch. Bring your own tent, sleeping bag, and other camp gear. CFI provides all tools necessary for the project.
