Help needed to find person who abandoned crated dog on snowy NY roadside

On December 27, Kent Police Department was contacted by a Good Samaritan about a small dog spotted in a metal crate on the roadside in the snow.

The dog, an un-neutered 4-6-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, was heartlessly abandoned near the intersection of White Pond Road and Farmers Mills Road in upstate New York, huddling unprotected from the frigid elements without any provisions.

Luckily he was picked up by animal control in time and is now safe and being well cared for by the Putnam County SPCA. They state on their Facebook page that there have been requests for his adoption, but he is not available during the ongoing investigation.

They are seeking the public’s help in finding the person(s) responsible for this act of cruelty.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact The Putnam County SPCA at (845) 520-6915. You can call 24/7 and remain anonymous.

In New York State, abandoning an animal is a misdemeanour crime punishable by imprisonment for not more than one year, or by a fine of not more than $1,000, or by a combination of both.
