It is a story that makes every parent's heart skip a beat. You drop your child off at school for the day certain that steps are taken to insure that child's safety only to find out someone walked into the school and stole your child. This nightmare happened for one family this week according to a heart breaking story from Fox 8 which was published Jan. 15, 2013. The five year old girl that was abducted Monday from a West Philadelphia school was found Tuesday under a slide barely dressed. She was crying "Help. I've been stolen."
As the story details are being released this does not seem like a random act. A woman dressed in "Muslim style head garb" and with her face covered walked into the school scribbled a name on the sign in sheet, she showed no identification but told the school authorities that she was the child's mother and wanted to take her to breakfast. She went straight to the class and asked for the girl by name.
There were "no overt" signs of injury to the child but is being examined. An amber alert was issued Monday along with a $10,000 reward for safe return. What is disturbing is that a child can be taken from a school without raising any red flags. According to the report a substitute teacher was on duty that day and will not be working in the school district while the investigation is going on. The school policy is that the person checking out the child is to report to the main office to be verified that person is on the list before the teacher releases the child.
