School starts this Monday, August 18, for the Harrisburg School District. Many parents are still scrambling to get school uniforms, supplies, back packs, etc. Luckily help is coming from the Tabernacle Baptist Church at their 4th Annual Back to School Fair. Presented by the Community Outreach ministry, from noon until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9th all school age children who attend the fair will receive school supplies. In this economy frugal folks know that every little bit helps.
According to Tabernacle Church "The Community Outreach Team was formed in 2011 during the Tabernacle Baptist Church Strategic Planning Training. It was determined at that time that our church needed a group to discover the needs of the immediate community surrounding our church (2 mile radius) and then provide opportunities to engage that community. So far, this team has successfully provided back-to-school backpacks to approximately 215 school-aged students for the past 2 years."
Upcoming proposed activities at Tabernacle Baptist Church, in addition to the Annual Back-to-School event:
Adult Basic Education
After School Tutoring
Community Outdoor Service
Dress for Success Event
But the fair isn’t all serious business – there will be a dunk tank, games, face painting, and more! Don’t worry about growling bellies – free food will also be on hand.
When the kids return to school parents have more time for themselves. For those moms and dads interested in obtaining their GED or attending college there will be information available.
Tabernacle Baptist Church is located at the corner of Capital and Herr Streets. The actual address is 110 Capital Street, Harrisburg, PA 17102. For additional information please call (717) 236-1774.
