On Saturday, February 16, Hello Bully will hold its fifth annual Lovers Not Fighters Gala at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh. The event, which is the largest fundraiser of the year for Hello Bully, begins at 7 p.m. with a VIP reception at 6 p.m.
The mission of Hello Bully is to rescue, rehabilitate and repair the reputation of the American Pit Bull Terrier. The money raised from the event helps fund Pit Bull education, awareness and spay/neuter programs.
Tickets are $50 for general admission and $120 for VIP tickets, which includes a VIP reception, VIP seating, and a premium gift bag.
The cocktail party style event features a red carpet, hors d’oeuvres, dessert buffet, and a cash bar, as well as raffle baskets, a silent auction and a live auction. There will also be a DJ and a brief presentation by Hello Bully.
“We are nonprofit and every dollar we make goes directly to helping pit bulls in need,” said Nicole Garritano Meloy, Hello Bully’s volunteer event manager. “We go all out for this event, and attendance and donations have grown through the years in a spectacular way.”
The annual event started in 2009 with 200 guests and raised $11,000. In 2010, there were 300 attendees and $20,000 raised. In 2011, there were 375 guests with $42,000 raised, and last year nearly 400 people were in attendance with $47,000 raised. Meloy said more than 400 people are expected to attend this year’s event.
