Hello again

So things sort themselves out with time.

I haven't written an article in a long while and for good reason. I've been busy actualizing dreams of my own career as a poet and trying to become a better educator. This summer, I completed my first spoken word tour with prolific poet Salam Shaheed, co-founder of Black-On-Black Rhyme (the largest poetry troupe in the nation). I met poets from all over the nation that welcomed me into their community of artists, fed me and housed me. The entire experience was quite poetic and nomad-like. I'm excited to do it again. All aspects of being on tour, the promoting, preparing product for sale, driving from venue to venue, eating at 2am, going to bed at 4am, waking up at noon and doing it all over again every day for nearly two months, was exhausting and time consuming. Even still, I've made my way back.

So much has changed on the Jackson, MS poetry scene and I'm ready to report it all with renewed focus. Get ready for artist spotlights, new venues and to catch up with some of our greatest poets and writers that have since moved on to other states.

I hope together we can cultivate something special. Hopefully I can once again get you excited about what's going on in Jackson, the City with Soul.

Stay Connected.
