As rain moves into the Houston area, more changes are being made to the schedule at the Shell and Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston for the final day of racing on Sunday, October 6, 2013 on the MD Anderson Center Speedway on the grounds of Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas.
The major change was the cancellation of the qualifying round for the Indy Car race schedule for early Sunday.
The decision was made by track and race officials to determine the starting grid by entrant points.
As a result, championship point leader Helio Castroneves, driving the #3 Team Penske car will race from the pole position, followed by #9 Scott Dixon in the Target Chip Ganassi car and #77 Simon Pagenaud, driving for Schmidt Hamilton Motorsports.
Castroneves finished in 18th place during the Saturday, October 5, 2013 race in Houston, completing only 80 of the 90 total laps due to gear box problems.
Dixon, on the other hand, showed what can be done when a driver takes advantage of opportunities.
With wrecks and mishaps beginning at the green flag and continuing throughout the day, Dixon and his Chevrolet powered car raced himself to the title and as a result, cutting his second place standing in the overall championship point hunt to a eight points.
The fact that Dixon and Castroneves will be racing from the front of the field in Sunday’s race will add to the excitement and thrill for fans in the stands.
In Saturday’s race, Simona De Silvestro, driving for KV Racing Technology was third.
Her third place finish was her second top five finish in 2013.
