The fly-in portion of the event began Wednesday when the first 25 rotary winged aircraft flew into downtown and landed in a converted parking lot on the north end of the huge convention center. (see slideshow of images from the fly-in below)

The expo is held by Helicopter Aircraft International (HAI), an industry group encompassing all aspects of helicopters. The expo is much more than just a show. Seminars and educational opportunities are packed into the show schedule. An awards banquet will be held at the Hilton Americas Hotel to honor companies, individuals and organizations whose contributions have benefited helicopter aviation over the past year and a lifetime award for Bell Helicopters.

Tickets to the event start at $85 for member one day passes, but if you want a job in the Helicopter industry you can attend the job fair on Sunday for free. The job fair will begin at 1:30pm and is being held on the convention floor. Students can attend throughout the convention for $10.

With hundreds of exhibitors the show offers many activities for attendees, the best way to get details on scheduled events is visit the HAI website

Next year the 2011 Heli-Expo will be held in Orlando Florida.
