Helen Mirren in pink hair at the BAFTAs 2013? Why not? (Video)

On Feb. 10, Dame Helen Mirren wasn't bothered by the lousy weather on British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Sunday. In fact, she was in the pink. Pink hair, that is. She had died her locks for the big event in London and a score of sources were wondering about the inspiration for this particular transformation, according to Gracia via Yahoo!.

The celebrated 67-year-old actress seemed to be channeling the likes of Katy Perry or Nicki Minaj. Or perhaps even Lady Gaga.

But no, none those trendsetters did the trick. Helen explained that her cotton candy-colored strands were inspired by a television show from this side of the pond that is helmed by model Tyra Banks.

"I saw [this color hair] on 'America's Next Top Model', so I decided to have a go," she explained to reporters who were covering the BAFTAs held at the British capital's landmark Royal Opera House.

To be sure Helen's new hair color popped, Mirren chose a dress in a more demure hue. In fact, she wore white. Her Nicholas Oakwell Couture gown was lovely, embellished with a plethora of floral embroidery.

So did Dame Helen Mirren win a prize while rocking her pink hair?

Not this time. The BAFTA 2013 for best actress went to an older thespian: 75-year-old Emmanuelle Riva, who stars in "Amour." But no matter. Helen Mirren already knew this wasn't her night for such prizes, saying she would lose in her category even before the event took place. Indeed, she admitted this defeat while talking to reporters as she walked the red carpet that led into the Royal Opera House.

Helen Mirren, who now is wearing pink hair, insisted, "I'm going to have lots of fun and celebrate anyway." Good on this very decorated and much admired thespian who knows how to have fun with fashion, too.
